Kgosi Serogola Seretse expressing his views on Serowe developmentsEnvirometrix Consultancy Company Sociologist, Dr Latang Sechele has promised Serowe Residents implementation of the Serowe Planning Area Development Plan of 2014-2038.

Presenting the draft plan on behalf of Central District Council at a Kgotla meeting held on the 1st March 2017 in Serowe, Dr Sechele emphasized that Serowe needs to be developed in order to attract investors and tourists. He further pointed out that the 24 year plan has to be implemented once it is approved.

“We are aware that plans have been presented before and implementation has not been done. However, this time we will make sure the plan is implemented accordingly, though we know that some of these developments might not be implemented due to budgetary constraints, we call upon the business community to come on board to help the plan to succeed,’’ he said.

The draft development plan includes construction of Magistrate Court, 2 junior secondary schools, 2 seniorCDC Principal Physical Planner Ms Seele Rampapeaccompanied the consultants secondary schools, 2 Clinics, sewage ponds, civic and community facilities, commercial and industrial infrastructure, hotels, paving and tarring of internal roads, installation of streets lights and traffic lights and A14 road will be transformed into a four way.

Commenting on the presentation, Acting Paramount Chief of Bangwato, Kgosi Serogola Seretse thanked Central District Council team for the consultation process. He expressed concern over the Serowe Bus Rank which he says it is in the middle of the village. He advised that it should be relocated to another place for the safety of the residents. He further pointed out that the access road to the Main Kgotla is being obstructed by the residential homes next to the Kgotla hence they should also be relocated.

Resident commenting on the presented draft plan For their part residents expressed dissatisfaction on the progress of their village development process. They noted that Serowe is very much behind with developments as compared to other villages in the Central District Council. They expressed concern over the internal roads and the school infrastructure. Residents observed that the internal roads are in poor conditions that needs immediate attention for their safety and their property. They pleaded that maintenance of roads should be a priority in the plan followed by construction or upgrading of schools.

 When concluding the meeting Dr Sechele said they have noted all the queries of the residents and now they are going to consult with relevant stakeholders. He informed the meeting that the draft plan will be presented to Serowe Administrative Authority Sub Council Meeting on the 9th March 2016. It will then be presented to Central District Full Council Meeting which starts on the 20th March 2017. The plan will then be submitted to the Ministry of Land  Management, Water and Sanitation Services.
